PAT FENLON’S HIBERNIAN were celebrating their Scottish Premier League survival last night after a 4-0 win which sent fellow strugglers Dunfermline down to the First Division.
But the post-match debate once again turned to goal-line technology after TV replays showed that Hibs’ fourth goal, scored by Paul Hanlon in the 81st minute, did not cross the line.
The defender’s volley from 15 yards had Pars keeper Chris Smith well beaten but crashed off the underside of the crossbar and bounced back into play where it was cleared.
Mysteriously, referee Euan Norris and his assistant decided that the ball had crossed the line and awarded a goal, adding to Hibs’ comfortable victory.
