SWANSEA WINGER NATHAN DYER admitted he was frustrated by the painful penalty snub that robbed him of a chance to complete a hat-trick in the 5-0 League Cup final demolition of Bradford on Sunday.

Dyer played a key role in Michael Laudrup’s team securing the first major silverware in Swansea’s history as he opened the scoring with a close-range effort in the 16th minute and then bagged the third goal with a curling finish two minutes after half-time at Wembley.

But when Swansea were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute after Bradford goalkeeper Matt Duke fouled Jonathan de Guzman, the man of the match felt he should have been handed the chance to seal his hat-trick.

De Guzman is Swansea’s regular penalty taker and he made it clear he wanted to keep that role, much to Dyer’s frustration.

The 25-year-old could be seen angrily complaining about the decision and it took the intervention of captain Ashley Williams and star striker Michu to finally calm him down.

Du Guzman stepped up to score the spot-kick and Dyer, who barely celebrated the goal, was eventually substituted, ending his hopes of a further chance to clinch his treble.

Asked after the final whistle how he felt about the penalty decision, Dyer said: “I wanted the hat-trick at a historic moment like this and I thought I should have got the ball, but it wasn’t to be.

“But Swansea have come so far as a club and a city, for us to win is massive. The players have worked so hard.”

Cup final shouldn’t be about one player, you make sure of the win regardless who scored

He even brought it up in his post-match interview, bigger things going on today than a chance of a hatrick. Even looked half-hearted celebrating with de Guzman

I wouldn’t blame him. It wasn’t as if they were in danger of loosing the game. I thought it was bad form not to let him take the penalty.

Doesn’t matter what the importance of the game is, you’re regular penalty taker should step up, remover when Forlan wanted to take a peno for United and Keano took the ball off him and gave it to Van Nistelrooy

He’ll want play in goal next week! There’s a reason De Guzman is the regular penalty taker.

What a petulant child. Football is a team game. Dyer is completely at fault here

Bull. They were 3-0 up and the opposition goalkeeper had just been sent off. Nobody has ever scored a hat-trick in league cup final history. It would have been a fantastic achievment for Dyer had he been allowed to take the spot kick.

Was so impressed with the maturity displayed by Dyer, not only to continue the game in a regular manner and not sulk but with his post match interview also.

Love both of the Laudrup brothers. They were absolutely stunning players but I have lost plenty of repsect for Michael after yesterdays match. Not only does he not stand up to de Guzman (possibly cos he would lie to sign him) and order him to allow Dyer take the penalty he goes and takes Dyer off 5 minutes later not giving him the opportunity to get his hat-trick in normal play. This is an incident that could ruin whatever unity/ team spirit existed among the Swanaea squad
