WE’VE SEEN SOME tennis tantrums in our time, but they don’t usually involve doing actual harm to anybody else.
In today’s final at Queens the Argentine was leading Marin Cilic, but as a handful of break points went against him in the second set, he lashed out.
His intended target was a small piece of advertising, but he failed to see the possibility that his follow through would wound the innocent pensioner behind.
Not cool, David.
Nalbandian was instantly disqualified and the title awarded to a less than jubilant, Cilic.
Nalbandian, speaking to BBC afterwards, still seems to be slightly disconnected from his actions, saying:
“There are a lot of rules, the rule book is very big. The ATP have made mistakes with the players and nothing happens.”
Not sure you need a rule book to know that kicking one of the judges isn’t on.
It’s the rule and he should be punished as such, the age of the umpire has noting to do with it his comments after were I’ll timed he should have kept it to himself til later in the week, and tennis is far from an snob sport in a worldwide standing
I was watching this on TV
He had to be disqualified
but he let himself down badly in the post match interview where he tried to justify his actions.
It was a good match, and a shame it was abandoned but it had to be done.
Paddy BeBop you are a troll
Disgraceful decision to disqualify him.
Some posh lad got kicked a bit…. boo hoo.
Tennis is a upper class joke.
If a player walked over a funted a linesman in football, do you think he’d stay on the pitch? Stupid comment.
bit of a poo write up really, 1 the age of the umpire shouldn’t really make a difference, 2 he didn’t kick the umpire, he kicked the advertising board and that barely touched him.
