VIDEO: Brady v Sadlier... which side of the fence are you on?

In the absence of Eamon Dunphy, the RTE pundits went head-to-head in a discussion over Trap’s future.

WITH EAMON DUNPHY absent from last night’s panel, Richard Sadlier took centre stage during RTE’s post-match analysis of a dismal 2-1 win for Ireland over Kazakhstan.

The former Millwall striker questioned Giovanni Trapattoni’s performance before calling on FAI chief John Delaney to seriously review the Italian’s tenure.

While elder statesman John Giles focused on the fact that three points were earned in Astana, Brady – who played and worked under Giovanni Trapattoni in the past – was staying loyal to the Italian, but bizarrely, said it is the players’ job to tell their manager to change his style.

Here are the best bits from last night’s discussion:

Siding with Sadlier on this one. Astonishing comments by Brady suggesting the “players should tell Trap how to play his team” . More cronyism here being a mate of Traps. Giles is typically woeful stating the obvious. These two along with sensationalist tabloid pundit Dunphy all need to go; their views are too full of horn blowing self interests. Sadlier, Cunningham (who has improved a lot in recent years) to lead the panelists in a new direction.

Completely agree Sadlier is the best of the new breed and Cunningham is very much a giles with stating the obvious but he also gives opinions at times too

Brady’s carry on was near delusional and his attitude towards Sadlier was condescending in the extreme. Sadlier is a coherent, consistent and engaging pundit who was merely stating the blindingly obvious. But then people who state the obvious are often vilified in Irish life.

Brady is a whining bollocks! Trap’s rent boy. Richie is one of the best pundits on tv. Fact.

I defended Trap for a long while, and even in the Euros dismal outing we were up against obviously superior opposition… but yesterdays game was a turning point for me. We were playing against a far inferior side and for trap to insist on such long ball hoof tactics was highly frustrating. For Brady then to insist that the result was enough, well I imagine many tvs were smashed in anger… I fully agree with sadlier when he questions is this how low the bar is set… chippy, u were a king on the pitch back in the day, being traps lickspittle just isn’t right!

Richard. . all the way. the man speaks the truth. Brady has too much personal agenda to Trap. Trap needs to change from long ball to keeping it down and passing AND bring in the QUALITY youth. if he wont do these he must go

Strange Giles siding with the Brady instead of Ritchie yet if Eamo was there He’d be saying the sane thing as Ritchie and Giles would have supported , id like to see a four man panel for the Germany game including Sadlier

Brady is a sour puss , Richie is intitled to his opinion as a pundit and as a supporter , again Brady can’t handle it , I seem to remember somebody could have been Dunphy having a kick at Arsenal and Wenger a few years ago and he lost the plot cause he didn’t like it.

Brady, Giles and trappattoni should all be put out to pasture. Brady was a disgrace in his defence of Steve staunton II

Richard Sadlier is so right and we should change Giles and company Richard and Eamonn Dunphy are the best they can give credit and criticism. As an Irish team we are getting weaker

Ya have to agree with most the comments here. Brady should be f*cked off the panel if he cant be objective in his comments. That was the worst performance I’ve seen considering the opposition.Strangely, a part of me was disappointed when we equalised as that performance did not deserve anything, in fact we should have lost by more. Trap has to go, as a matter of principle. Keane, as much I admire his service to Ireland, was anonymous with a player like Long( in great form) sittin on the bench.

The whole set up turns my stomach. Trap’s stubborness/ignorance is mind boggling. It’s like Big Jack again, the great foreigner deciding what’s best for the poor average paddies. Not f*cking good enough

Brady always running lines in favour of his mate trap should not be on the panel can’t give an unbiased opinion and as for ‘senior analyst’ giles, he is still going back to his day to bck up facts..well out of touch with relevance to modern game

I read Sadlier every Sunday in the Sunday Indo. Top class writing and opinions from a guy who has played in the lower leagues and took huge amount of crap as he made his way. Not surprising to me that he had the balls to take on Brady and win the argument.
