United silent on Ferguson-Rooney reports

The club have rejected rumours that the striker – along with teammates Darron Gibson and Johnny Evans – was left out for the Blackburn match after breaking curfew.

MAN UNITED HAVE seemingly stood by Alex Ferguson’s claims that Wayne Rooney missed yesterday’s game against Blackburn through injury, despite reports suggesting the striker was left out of the team for disciplinary reasons.

Explaining the striker’s absence after the game, Ferguson told reporters:

“Wayne hasn’t trained well this week, he’s missed a few days and we’re hoping that he trains today, tomorrow and, by Wednesday, he should be okay. It’s little strains here and there.”

And United have continued to carry this statement on their official website, despite The Mail on Sunday claiming Rooney was dropped from the squad after the striker’s decision to go on a night-out reportedly infuriated Ferguson.

Rooney – along with teammates Darron Gibson and Johnny Evans – was reportedly dropped for breaking a curfew imposed by Ferguson.

The trio were reportedly made to do extra training as the squad prepared for the Blackburn game, while it is also claimed that Rooney was hit with a six-figure fine.

Meanwhile, in their absence, Man United suffered a shock 3-2 loss at home to Blackburn yesterday – an outcome that some bookmakers priced as high as 37/1 prior to the game.
