AFTER HIS CONTROVERSIAL defeat to Carlos Condit, this week got a whole lot worse for Nick Diaz with the news that he failed a post-fight drugs test.
The Nevada State Athletics Commission yesterday declared that Diaz had tested positive for “marijuana metabolites” which led to the UFC scrapping plans for a rematch between him and Condit.
This is the second time the Stockton native has failed a drugs test for the use of marijuana and although no sentence has yet been passed, his ban could be significantly more than the six months he served for the previous offence.
The news comes as a blow to UFC fans, who had watched the drama unfold between Diaz, Condit and GSP with bated breath.
Condit spoiled the party somewhat by beating Diaz last weekend, postponing the proposed super-fight between Diaz and St Pierre that everyone had wanted to see. Now it looks as if that fight might never happen.
Diaz has been given plenty of chances by UFC president Dana White and it seems now he might have blown his last one, finally ruining his shot at the big-time.

Getting back to the action inside the Octagon, Condit scored a controversial unanimous decision victory over Nick Diaz to claim the interim welterweight title belt.
In a close fight, “The Natural Born Killer” executed a smart game plan of rushing in and causing damage before escaping quickly, avoiding the dirty boxing game Diaz is so well known for.
Condit’s lack of engagement and constant backing off, led many to believe that it was Diaz, the aggressor, who won the fight.
It was clear from the judges’ scorecards that Octagon control doesn’t score as highly as most think, and the decision led to Diaz announcing his retirement from MMA. Little did he know, the decision might be out of his hands.
Fabricio Wedum produced a vastly improved stand-up game against a very durable Roy Nelson as he won every round on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
Nelson took some big knees while caught up in Werdum’s lethal Muay Thai clinch that would have finished any other opponent.

Josh Koscheck claimed he found it hard to get motivated for a fight against Mike Pierce and it showed as he laboured to a close split decision victory.
The man from Oregon proved that he was more than a match for “Kos” as he matched him in the stand-up and wrestling aspects of the fight.
He could feel a little aggrieved with the result but his stock will have risen after such an impressive performance and on another day he could have easily taken the victory.
Renan Barao extended his winning streak to an incredible twenty eight with a win over Scott Jorgensen while Ed Hermann rallied back after taking some hard shots to choke out Clifford Starks in the first round of their contest.
