A CLINICAL FIVE-try performance gave Ulster a comprehensive 33-13 win over Zebre at Kingspan Stadium tonight.
Things started well for the home side with wrecking ball Nick Williams getting an early score. The pack won a scrum against the head near the Zebre line and the back row burrowed over from a few yards out.
The concession of an early try didn’t rock Zebre though, and they soon had the lead following a try from Samuela Vunisa, which was converted by Kelly Haimona, and then penalty from Haimona. Ulster then took charge and after Andrew Trimble gathered a high kick, the ball was spread wide for Craig Gilroy to touch down in the corner.
That score seemed to get confidence coursing through the veins of the players and soon after, Ulster created an overlap and Robbie Diack got their third try of the game to give them a 19-10 half-time lead.
Surprisingly, it took Ulster 20 minutes of the second half to get their bonus point try, with Andrew Trimble going over following a lovely break from scrum-half Paul Marshall. Dan Tuohy added some gloss to the scoreline with a fifth try to make it a 20-point win that was the home side’s first of the new campaign.
