Ulster secure bonus point in Aironi rout

Andrew Trimble and Paddy Jackson were among the try scorers in what was a comfortable Heineken Cup victory for the Irish side.

ULSTER EARNED A coveted bonus point as they romped to victory, beating Italian opponents Aironi 31-10 in Ravenhill in the Heineken Cup this evening.

The tone for the evening was set as Stephen Ferris registered an early try, with Ian Humphreys converting.

And while Tito Tebaldi soon responded with a penalty for the Italian side, it was mostly one-way traffic thereafter.

Although Aironi subsequently missed two penalties, Ulster’s Adam D’Arcy scored a crucial second try just after their opponents had been reduced to 14 men, as Giulio Toniolatti was sin-binned.

Ulster made their dominance count further in the second half, gaining a bonus point in the process, with tries from Andrew Trimble, Paul Marshall and Paddy Jackson.

And while Tommaso D’Apice scored late on, it proved to be little more than a consolation for the visitors, who suffered their third successive loss in the competition this year.
