UEFA investigate 23 clubs for alleged finance breach

Europa League champions Atletico Madrid are among the clubs who have had prize money withheld pending further investigation.

EUROPA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Atletico Madrid are one of 23 clubs being investigated for an alleged financial breach.

In its official statement, the UEFA Club Financial Control Body’s (CFCB) investigatory chamber has named 23 clubs that took part in European competitions in the 2012-13 campaign and have had their prize money withheld pending further investigation.

The clubs had to provide information regarding the status of any overdue payables by 30 June as part of the first measure of the financial fair play requirements.

The CFCB investigatory chamber has now identified that important overdue payables towards other clubs existed in 23 cases, with Atletico Madrid, Malaga, Sporting CP and Fenerbahce among the teams that were punished.

The CFCB investigatory chamber has asked the clubs to provide an updated situation by the end of September.
