Tyrone tonight elected the first woman chairperson of a GAA county board in Ireland

Roisin Jordan was elected for the post in Tyrone.

Updated at 21.45pm.

SINCE THE FOUNDING of the GAA in 1884, no county board on the island of Ireland has elected a female chair.

However, that all changed this evening as Rosin Jordan โ€“ who has served as Tyrone vice-chair for the past five years โ€“ was ratified for the top job in the Ulster county.

Jordan, a former camogie player, has also served on the Tyrone disciplinary board and as secretary of her club Eglish.

While Eileen Jennings was elected as chair of the European Board in 2006, Jordan becomes the first female county board chairperson in Ireland.

With the vice-chair traditionally replacing the chairperson in Tyrone, Jordan was favourite for the role when the convention took place in Garvaghey this evening.
