TYRONE CRUISED INTO the semi-finals of the Power NI Dr McKenna Cup tonight with a 5-16 to 0-7 win over Armagh at Healy Park in Omagh.
Mickey Harte’s side claimed their third win on the trot in the pre-season competition to ensure they top Section A and reach next Sunday’s last four ties.
There they will face Derry who topped Section B after they claimed a 1-17 to 0-14 victory over St Mary’s tonight in Owenbeg. The result meant Brian McIver’s team had a 100% record from their three games in the section.
The game will take place in Omagh and Tyrone will hope to maintain tonight’s blistering form. Ciaran McGinley rattled the net for the first goal of the game early on before Mattie Donnelly bagged the second. At the break Tyrone lead 2-10 to 0-4.
They kept powering forward after the break with Ronan O’Neill striking the third goal, Peter Harte converting a penalty for the fourth and PJ Lavery crowning a fine night’s work with their fifth goal.

Derry had six points to spare over the students of St Mary’s. They lead 1-7 to 0-7 at the break with Anthony O’Neill firing home the goal for the Oak Leaf County. Aaron Kerrigan’s point-taking helped them run out victors at the finish.
Elsewhere in Section A, Donegal defeated Queen’s University by 3-17 to 3-4 in Ballybofey but failed to advance to the knockout stages. A magnificent Michael Murphy goal helped them lead 1-7 to 2-0 at half-time with Ryan Rafferty netting a brace for the students.
Rafferty completed his hat-trick in the second-half but Donegal pulled clear thanks to goals from Colm McFadden and Rory Kavanagh.
