THE LEGENDARY SPORTS journalist and writer Con Houlihan has passed away at the age of 86.
The Kerryman was best known as a writer for The Irish Press, Evening Press and Sunday Press before the demise of the group in 1995.
Con Houlihan also wrote for the Irish Independent and Evening Herald, and published several books including More Than A Game, Princes of Pigskin: A Century of Kerry Footballers, and Windfalls.
May he rest in peace.
I loved reading his articles in the Evening Press interesting , witty , informative and fearless. May he Rest In Peace .
One of the true common men of this world , a great Journalist , fantastic to listen to. A Kerryman with a love for The Dubs too …. Ni bheidh a leithead aris ann ….
Maeve and he might find time to chat in Heaven … If there is such a place!
Very sad to hear this. One of Ireland’s real characters. He had an extraordinary way of painting pictures with words. A sad week for Irish Journalism and literature , with Maeve Binchy’s passing.
Gore Vidal this week as well.
R.I.P Con. I use to see him drink his Brandy & Milk in O’Connell’s Portobello..
RIP Con
Black armbands for Kerry tomorrow and a minutes applause today would be a fitting tribute.
His was the only article I read in the Sunday World. RIP Con
Used to buy the evening press just to read his article, sport in poetry.
Great to see the advantage of twitter to express sorrow at the passing of another national treasure. He was one of the reasons i am studying journalism.
