CARLOS TEVEZ IS very clearly persona non grata among both the red and blue halves of Manchester, but all those unworn and unwearable replica jerseys bearing his name wonโt go to waste.
Ahead of Sundayโs Manchester derby at Old Trafford, Betfair have organised an amnesty and are giving fans the opportunity to swap their old Tevez shirts for a new one, unsullied by the strikerโs blackened name.
The bookmakers said today that they will place giant recycling skips with Tevezโs image and the slogan โTrash your Tevez shirtโ outside the ground. And with a capacity crowd of almost 76,000 expected for the neighboursโ first league meeting of the season, there are bound to a few unwanted Tevez jerseys floating about.
All of the jerseys tossed by fans this weekend will be sent out to local charities in the strikerโs native Argentina where, presumably, at least one or two people still like him.
โTime and time again Tevez has let the fans down,โ Betfair spokesman Barry Orr said.
What better way for fed up supporters to show they want rid of him for good than by dumping their shirts.
