ROY HODGSON HAS described Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni as “one of the world’s outstanding coaches” and suggested the FAI are right to stick by the embattled manager.
Trapattoni has received much criticism since Ireland underperformed at Euro 2012, with many calling for his resignation, however the England manager has defended the Italian’s managerial ability.
“He’s a friend of mine, he has been a friend for many years since I went to Italy all those years ago,” he told reporters. “If you ever want to talk about legends in coaching terms then Giovanni Trapattoni’s name will be up there. You show me a national team coach that’s not getting stick somewhere.”
The Irish side take on England on Wednesday, and Hodgson has also warned supporters at Wembley against singing anti-IRA chants.
