The Departures Lounge: Spurs look to splash Modric cash

Moussa Dembele could soon be swapping one London club which wears white for another.

NOW THAT LUKA Modric has finally sealed his long-awaited move to Real Madrid, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas can breath a swift sigh of relieft before preparing himself for a late splurge in the transfer market.

With Daniel Levy eager to squeeze every penny he could get out of the La Liga’s giants, the Croatian’s switch has dragged on all summer meaning Spurs have been as of yet been unable to bring in a replacement.

Now that the inflow of funds is assured, AVB will aim to sign long term target Willian but is also interested in Russian-based star Alan Dzagoev, who plays for CKSA Moscow and impressed for his country during Euro 2012.

Closer to home, Fulham’s Moussa Dembele is seen as a possible option while Manchester United’s Anderson has also been mentioned.

One player who will not be arriving at White Hart Lane in the coming days according to Internacional vice-president Luciano Davi is Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao.

Tottenham came to us but their offer didn’t match our valuation of him,” Sky Sports report Davi as saying. “Leandro Damiao is a national team striker and we have to value that.”

While French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is still wanted, Jemain Defoe could be heading for the exit door.

Going?

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson left Nani out of last weekend’s squad for the game with Fulham after the Portuguese winger had endured a difficult opening Premier League match the previous week and today there are several rumours that he may be set to leave the club after five years.

Zenit St Petersburg have offered €30 million for the 25-year-old while Goal.com report he is demanding “showdown talks” over his future.

Going?

Liverpool’s new deep-lying midfielder Joe Allen has made a superb start to life on Merseyside and, coupled with the arrival of Nuri Sahin from Real Madrid, it has effectively spelt the end for homegrown player Jay Spearing.

The 23-year-old graduated from the club’s academy but now looks to be heading to Championship side Bolton in a deal worth nearly €4m for the Reds. QPR, Aston Villa, Southampton and Wolves are also believed to be interested if that deal stalls.

Brendan Rodgers needs to clear out a couple more players and Charlie Adam is eyeing up a short trip to join Everton while Joe Cole wants to go back to his roots – West Ham.

Gone!

QPR have agreed a four year deal for Inter Milan’s Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar. Everything is in place for the 32-year-old to arrive in London and, while Cesar is still attempting to settle on a pay-off from the Nerazzurri, an announcement is expected anytime now.
