TONY MCENTEE IS in line to become the new Down senior football manager and succeed James McCartan in the position.
There are widespread reports this morning from The Belfast Telegraph, Newstalk, The Irish Independent and Gaelic Life that McEntee will become the new man in charge of the Mourne County’s footballers.
McCartan ended his five-year stint in charge of Down back in June in the wake of the county’s championship exit against Kildare at the qualifier stage.
And now Down seem likely to look to their neighbouring county for inspiration when selecting their new manager. McEntee arrives with a glowing managerial record after leading Crossmaglen Rangers to two AIB All-Ireland senior club football titles, three Ulster senior club football crowns and three Armagh county championship wins.
McEntee is currently in charge of Dublin club St Brigid’s who are gearing up for their Dublin second round tie against Skerries Harps on Saturday September 20th.
Down received a major boost yesterday with the confirmation that Marty Clarke and Caolan Mooney are set to return to Ireland after their AFL careers with Collingwood drew to a close.
