Tohill bulks up for Australian challenge

The Irish manager has added some experienced faces to his International Rules panel ahead of next weekend’s departure.

ANTHONY TOHILL has pinpointed players with experience of the Australian game as he fills out his panel for the International Rules series down under.

AFL star Zach Tuohy, who left the Laois senior footballers to join Melbourne side Carlton in 2010, joins former inter-county team-mate Colm Begley, Carlow’s Brendan Murphy and Kildare’s Eamonn Callaghan on Tohill’s revised panel.

Begley and Murphy both had spells trying to break into the AFL with St Kilda and the Sydney Swans respectively before returning home to Ireland to resume their GAA careers.

These latest additions follow on from an 18-man skeleton panel named by Tohill on Tuesday.

The Irish manager is expected to name one more player to complete a 23-man squad, captained by Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton, ahead of their departure for Australia next weekend.

The first test of the series takes place in Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium on 28 October with the second leg in Gold Coast on 4 November.
