PADRAIG HARRINGTON WON the PGA Grand Slam of Golf today, firing a four-under par 67 to beat US Open champion Webb Simpson by one stroke in the four-man, 36-hole event.
Harrington, a three-time major winner, lost out in playoffs in this event in 2007 and 2008.
His third attempt saw him playing as an alternate in the tournament designed for the year’s four Grand Slam champions, filling in for British Open champion Ernie Els, who withdrew with a mild ankle sprain.
Harrington birdied three straight on the back nine to pull away and finished with a nine-under total of 133 to claim the $600,000 first prize.
Simpson posted a 67 without a bogey to finish second on 134. Masters champion Bubba Watson carded a 71 and former PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley a 67 to share third on 139.
Bradley, who won this event last year, was filling in for reigning PGA Championship title holder Rory McIlroy, who withdrew to play a European Tour event in China.
Well done Padraig…You’re the man!!!
Might be able to hang on to the jet afterall…:)
thats great news for paddy, hopfully its the start of good things to come
Took the words out of my mouth
Well done… Long overdue after that drought … Back up the ladder … A decent auld skin. Slainte
Padraig please leave you game alone now!
There’s more majors in him.
Well done Padraig!
Delighted for him as I’d imagine missing the Ryder cup hurt.
nice one paddy, poor auld Ernie, probably cursing his mild ankle strain lamenting what might have been.
Get in the hole!
No stop messing with the swing Paid
Well done Padraig – as others have said don’t go changing again just because you’ve won! Great result
You cannot keep a good man down . Just dont start tweaking with that swing .
Hopefully he goes back up the rankings and knocks Rory and then play for his country in rio!!!which he would be honoured !!!
Fair play delighted for him it justifys missing out on bmw in shanghai but the tournament was only over 2 rounds just dont think he has been.same player since he messed with.his swing not able to put 4 good rounds together hopefully this can give him confidence to do so
To beat 3 holders that are ranked in the top 10 in the world is great for his confidence. He actually played brilliantly also. Congrats and well done.
I was looking at most of the comments wondering who actually watched it. He played a smashing round last night. think it was the 10th hole he played his 2nd from 175 and bubba played his from 75. bubba had a loooong putt and Harrington had a tap in. a few holes later himself and bubba missed the green when Bradley “chipped” in and Harrington again had a much better shot and rolled in a nice putt go -10. Exhibition or not he showed some fantastic form last night
he had 25% chance of winning wouldn’t rate it as a great achievement nice pay day though his best days behind him
You got lots of red thumbs but I agree with you. He beat 3 golfers over two rounds. Yes, they are 3 great golfers but 3 all the same.
Its not a serious event, they even interview the players between shots and the result doesn’t impact rankings.
A couple of hundred thousand quid can’t hurt.
Must be an accountant commenting on an accountant .
last few yrs it’s been all about NI golfing. but with this and Shane Lowrys win in Portugal a few weeks back hopefully golf in the rep is climbing back to where it should be
Does anyone know if this affects world rankings?
I believe its a non.ranking event
Couldn’t happen to a nicer fella, Pauric, well done and many more to come
