ENGLAND FANS WHO travelled to Poland are not happy this morning.
Their World Cup qualifier in Warsaw will be played today at 4pm after it was cancelled last night.
The decision not to close the roof of the National Stadium โ reportedly made by the Polish FA earlier on Tuesday โ meant that the pitch was subject to a heavy deluge of water throughout the afternoon and evening, and after a handful of inspections by the referee, the game was eventually called off.
Mark Perryman of the London England Fansโ group was in attendance in Poland, and said that the supporters were relayed very little information, and that the non-usage of the roof was โinexplicableโ.
โIt was appalling,โ Perryman told Goal.com. โThey had the big screen suspended above the pitch, and the only announcement that came was that there would be an announcement at 21.45 local time.
โPeople are standing there getting texts from home. We can see that itโs pouring and pouring with rain, and the referee comes on maybe an hour before 21.45. The ball was hardly moving when he was throwing it.
โThere was virtually no communication. I mean, it was a bit difficult because the fans were making a lot of noise so you couldnโt really hear the announcement, but as far as I could hear there was only one on the screen, which was an appalling way to treat the fans. Iโve got to say, I donโt think we should get on our moral high-horse because Wembley hasnโt even got a roof. It does seem strange though.โ
The Polish FA were reportedly not keen on playing the game so close to their league fixtures, which are scheduled to continue on Friday. Perryman added: โWeโve been told kick-off time is at five oโclock, which is during the working day for the Poles, so it could be very interesting to see what the attendance will be.
โThere were probably a lot of negotiations going on between the FA and the Polish FA because the Polish league has games on Friday.
โThe English FA were probably thinking: โWe have all these lucrative friendlies lined up next year because of the 150th Anniversary, nightmare! Weโll have to cancel the Brazil game or the Ireland or Scotland game!โโ
In the ITV gantry meanwhile, Adrian Chiles was tying to knock an hourโs worth of chat out of Roy Keane and his colleagues Gareth Southgate and Lee Dixon. The Corkman wasnโt impressed with the officialsโ inspection of the surface:

is that the same roy keane(pundit) who said pundits were clowns and he would never be a pundit.
I do believe it is!!!
Getting your Saxon shilling for two nights work now Roy! Not all bad eh mate?
wow. Roy Keane having a comment on something? thatโs new! glad to see heโs a proud Irishman at an England match rather than watching Ireland
Poor you โ watch Ireland play the faroes or get paid a huge amount to watch England and Polandโฆโฆโฆyou donโt have to watch Ireland to appreciate themโฆ..also he has no job at the moment so Iโm sure getting a wage is more important
I guess youโre right- if it wasnโt for getting that gig last night then Roy would prob be on the next flight to oz looking for a job.
Ah sure Roy is never happyโฆbless him :)
Well in all fairness he is right
always right
Rent-a-quote Roy has a pop at someone?
Hopefully he will include it in his next Sun article
