The Morning Score: Wednesday

From Theo Walcott to Dan Rooney to Ryan McMenamin, here’s everything you need to know this morning.

Every morning TheScore brings you the stories you need to know before that first cup of coffee.

1. #LOILIVE Dundalk and Waterford United could not be seperated in last night’s first leg of their Airtricity League play-off in Oriel Park, with the game finishing 2-2.

Waterford United lead 2-1 by the hour mark and it took a 76th minute equaliser from Stephen McDonnell to rescue Dundalk ahead of Friday’s second leg in Waterford. Here’s how it all unfolded.

2. #LEAGUE CUP It was extraordinary stuff at the Madejski Stadium last night as Arsenal, inspired by Theo Walcott, bounced back from 4-0 win to win 7-5 after extra-time against Reading. Here’s what happened elsewhere.

Tonight, Chelsea and Manchester United face off again at Stamford Bridge. That should be fun.

3. #REBELS Cork football goalkeeper Alan Quirke will not be available to Conor Counihan at the start of next season. The netminder is to depart next Monday for the Lebanon as part of his job with the Defence Forces, TheScore.ie learned yesterday.

4. #TRAP Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni will name his squad this afternoon for the friendly against Greece. We’ll be at the Aviva Stadium for the Italian’s press conference. Do you reckon Weso will get the nod from the now jet-setting Trap? That is one of five changes that we would like to see.

5. #NFL Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney last night said he thinks Croke Park will one day host a regular season NFL game. “We were very close to getting it here,” the ambassador told Newstalk’s Off The Ball. “The problem is they’re trying to see what London can do and whether it can handle more than one game and that’s what happened.

6. #RUGBY Ireland held an open training session at Donnybrook yesterday. Here’s what happened.

7. #RETIREMENT Tyrone have seen another one of their longest-serving footballers hang up his boots. After 13 years of inter-county football, during which time he won three All-Ireland senior medal, defender Ryan McMenamin has called time on his career.
