The Morning Score: Wednesday

Letting slip a four-goal lead, Jogi? What’s the German for schadenfreude?

Every morning TheScore.ie bring you the stories you need to know before that first cup of coffee.

1. #COYBIG Ireland got their World Cup qualification campaign back on track last night with a 4-1 win over the Faroe Islands.

After a scoreless first half, Marc Wilson opened the scoring before Jon Walters, an own goal and Darren O’Dea added to that tally.

Afterwards, all the talk was about manager Giovanni Trapattoni’s future however. The Italian insisted he’s going nowhere and was backed by skipper Robbie Keane and man-of-the-match James McCarthy. There was the usual fun and games in the RTÉ studio too of course.

2. #WORLD CUP 2014 Elsewhere in Ireland’s pool, there was more bad news. Germany were 4-0 up with less than half and hour to go against Sweden — who look to be Ireland’s main rivals for a play-off spot. Incredibly though, the Swedes fought back for a 4-4 draw. Austria beat Kazakhstan 2-0.

3. #TRAP Even before the game against the Faroes last night the pressure was on the Ireland manager. He has cancelled his routine post-game press conference at Dublin Airport this evening, but it emerged last night that the Italian’s sister is ill in Milan. The focus will now turn to John Delaney and the FAI; what do you think should happen?

4. #HANDBALL Paul Brady sealed his fourth world title at CityWest last night with a 21-19 win over American challenger Luis Moreno. Earlier Aisling Reilly saw off her St Paul’s clubmate Fiona Shannon in a thrilling tie-breaker. We’ll have a full report presently.

5. #LANCE ARMSTRONG The American could be stripped of his Olympic bronze medal in the wake of doping allegations against him.

Armstrong, who finished third in the time trial at the Sydney 2000 Games, has been accused by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) of coordinating the most complex doping program ever seen in sport.

Elsewhere yesterday, Armstrong’s former team-mate Levi Leipheimer was sacked by his team Omega Pharma.
