The Morning Score: Tuesday

Here’s everything you need to know as you pour that first cup of coffee this morning.

1. #KINGDOM COME The Kerry County Board confirmed three-time All-Ireland winner Eamonn Fitzmaurice as the county’s new senior football manager last night. Fitzmaurice, who replaces Jack O’Connor, has been handed a three-year term.

His backroom team will be announced in October but is unlikely to include his fellow underage selector Darragh Ó Sé, who has been appointed to manage the U21 team for the next two seasons.

2. #FAI CUP Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers will meet each other for a place in the final four of the FAI Cup after the quarter-final draw paired the old Dublin foes together last night.

St Patrick’s Athletic host Drogheda United, Bohemians play Dundalk, and Derry City will face the winner of Waterford United v Mervue United.

3. #HOMOPHOBIA The GAA has described claims that it is not doing enough to stamp out homophobia in the sport as “completely and utterly over the top.”

On Monday, Labour MEP Phil Prendergast criticised the Association for not properly protecting its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members.

4. #US OPEN Andy Murray and Roger Federer both booked their places in the second round with straight sets wins as the US Open got underway in Flushing Meadows on Monday.

Murray beat Alex Bogomolov Jr 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 while Federer beat Donald Young 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

5. #DUBLIN GAA Anthony Daly looks set to stay on as manager of the Dublin senior hurlers. Speaking to TheScore.ie yesterday, Dublin county board chairman Andy Kettle confirmed that the Clare man was “about 99% certain” to remain in charge in the capital.

6. #RYDER CUP Ireland’s Padraig Harrington has not been included in Europe’s Ryder Cup squad for next month’s match in Medinah. It is the first time since his debut appearance in 1999 that the Dubliner misses out on the squad.

Captain José Maria Olazabal named England’s Ian Poulter and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts as his two captain’s picks.
