The Morning Score: Monday

Get it while it’s hot – here’s your Monday morning round-up of all the sports news.

1. #FA CUP Arsenal booked their place in the last 16 with a thrilling 3-2 win at home to Aston Villa despite an opening goal made by Robbie Keane and scored by Richard Dunne.

And despite then going 2-0 down, the Gunners battled back for a famous, and badly-needed, victory at the Emirates.

Earlier, Sunderland and Middlesbrough drew 1-1 in their north-east derby at the Stadium of Light.

2. #AUSSIE OPEN Novak Djokovic had to wear Rafael Nadal down yesterday, eventually running out the winner 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 to claim his third Australian Open title.

3. #GAA On a busy day of gaelic games action, Davy Fitzgerald returned to the sideline with his native Clare yesterday.

And the Banner legend enjoyed a winning start to his new position as his charges ran out comfortable winners over an understrength  WIT at Sixmilebridge.

“You’re looking at being very, very competitive, we’re hoping, in two to three years. There are good young lads there, they are very honest and determined. We’d be well down the rankings at the moment,” Fitzgerald told RTÉ afterwards.

4. #ABU DHABI England’s Robert Rock took on Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods yesterday and outlasted both, winning the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship by a single shot.

McIlroy finished second, with Graeme McDowell sharing third place with Woods and Thomas Bjorn of Denmark.

5. #VIRAL Peter Casey took a Grade 1 victory at Leapordstown yesterday. But after his six-year-old Flemenstar, ridden by Andrew Lynch, took the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Steeplechase, this is how he has reacted. .

Speaking to RTE’s Tracey Piggott, the interview is a YouTube sensation and probably NSFW.
