1. #JIM WHITE DAY OK, so 90% of the deals on Transfer Deadline Day will see players from Burton Albion swap places with players from Cheltenham Town, but this promises to be a massive day for fans of Liverpool and Tottenham in particular as the transfer window closes.
The Reds need to replace third choice striker Andy Carroll, who went on loan to West Ham while the chosen ones drew with Hearts in the Europa League, while Tottenham are going to be busy, busy, busy, even without Harry Redknapp.
And that’s without mentioning Manchester City. And Arsenal. And Manchester United (do we believe Fergie when he says nobody’s coming in?).

2. #DUBLIN v MAYO Alan Brogan has been named at corner-forward in the Dubs side to face Mayo at Croke Park on Sunday. Donegal await the winners in the final as Pat Gilroy’s men go for the cherished two-in-a-row. Meanwhile, TheScore.ie caught up with former Mayo star Ciarán McDonald this week and it proved to be quite the eye opener.
3. #PARALYMPICS It’s another action-packed day at the Paralympics, with Team Ireland busier than ever. Irish athletes who should be of particular interest include Colin Lynch, Catherine Walsh & Fran Meehan, Jason Smyth and the Irish rowing team, who are making their Paralympic debut. Meanwhile, there are a number of sports that invariably prove to be entertaining viewing taking place later, including Football 5-a-side, Sitting Volleyball and Shooting.
4. #RETIRING Tennis star Andy Roddick has announced that he will retire from tennis after the US Open. The 30-year-old American said: “I just feel like it’s time. I don’t know if I’m healthy enough or committed enough to go another year.”
Roddick won his only Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows nine years ago, before the likes of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic left every other player trailing in their wake.
Federer hailed Roddick, saying: “I’m so happy for him. He’s had an amazing career.”
5. PAIRC UI CHAOIMH Over 400 jobs will be created by a project to redevelop Páirc Uí Chaoimh, the Cork GAA County Board revealed following a briefing on Thursday evening.
The plans to modernise the home of Cork GAA and restore it as one of the country’s premier sports stadiums by 2015 will cost €67 million, and will also include the construction of an integrated Centre of Excellence.
