The Morning Score: Friday

No more sleeps! Here’s all you need to know on this big, big day for Irish football fans.

Every morning TheScore.ie brings you the stories you need before that first cup of coffee.

1. #EUROS It’s time. The European Championships will kick off this afternoon with hosts Poland taking on Greece before the Czechs face Russia. With Ireland preparing to face Croatia in Poznan on Sunday, it’s been a busy morning at Dublin airport. Assistant manager Marco Tardelli insisted again yesterday that Shay Given would be fine to start despite an injury concern while skipper Robbie Keane said he’s happy to fulfil any role Giovanni Trapattoni assigns to him.

2. #GAA There’s a massive weekend of gaelic games action in store too you know. Last night, some of the team news started to trickle in with Meath, Wexford and Cork revealing — supposedly — their starting XVs.

3. #RUGBY Declan Kidney’s squad continued their preparations for tomorrow’s first Test against the All Blacks with a captain’s run earlier. Afterwards, our man on tour, Pat McCarry, put your questions to the head coach and the skipper, Brian O’Driscoll.

4. #GOLF Rory McIlroy and Pádraig Harrington are two shots off the lead at St Jude’s. John Merrick bogeyed the 18th hole to draw level with Jeff Maggert for the lead in Memphis, Tennessee.

5. #RACING Leopardstown will hold a precautionary inspection at 1pm ahead of this evening’s meeting due to the threat of further heavy rain.
