The Magnificent Seven: crazy sports fans

These seven individuals have one thing in common – they’re all somewhat bonkers.

FOLLOWING EAMON KEEGAN’S much-discussed antics abroad this week, we decided to look back on some of the most famous sports fans.

From the crazy to the downright stupid, here they are in all their glory:

1. Conor Cunningham

The Ballincollig man gained notoriety when he somehow managed to blag his way into the Estonia team dugout for Ireland’s crucial Euro 2012 first-leg playoff. And what was his ingenious scheme to ensure he got the best seat in the house to view the action? Borrowing an Estonian team tracksuit that had been left unattended. Lax security and a seriously presumptuous Estonian bench consequently meant that Cunningham could view the entire 90 minutes in peace.

2. Jimmy Jump

As pitch invaders go, Jimmy Jump is in a league of his own, merely for the consistency with which he succeeds in evading the authorities. His hitlist includes several football matches, including the Euro 2004 final and the 2010 World Cup final, in addition to the Spanish Grand Prix, the 2007 Rugby World Cup final and the Eurovision song contest.

3. The crazy wrestling fan

While you might casually describe someone like Conor Cunningham as ‘crazy,’ you get the sense that the fan below is literally crazy. Or at least, he REALLY likes wrestling.

4. The crazy England fan

I mean seriously, were all those tattoos really necessary?

5. Neil Horan

Also known as the Dancing Priest, Horan became infamous when he invaded the 2003 British Grand Prix. On the occasion in question, he ran across the track with a banner that read: “Read the Bible. The Bible is always right.” He subsequently received two months in prison for his troubles. Horan went on to appear at several other events, including the 2004 Epsom Derby and the 2004 Summer Olympics men’s marathon, in which he pushed the race’s leader, Vanderlei de Lima, into the crowd.

6. The Kobe Bryant obsessive

SERIOUSLY! Take the microphone away from this fan/sycophant. He’s probably the closest thing to a sporting equivalent of the ‘Leave Britney alone’ guy.

7. The Green Morph pitch invader

It’s not every day that you see a fan invade the pitch, particularly one dressed in a green morph suit, with lighting speed and admirable resilience to boot.
