The Departures Lounge: your daily lunchtime transfer round-up

What the hell is Joey Barton on about now and more of today’s latest transfer rumours.

ANGRY FOOTBALL MOBS are set to have a field day this week.

Fresh from the news that Alex McLeish is considering moving to Birmingham City’s bitter rivals Aston Villa, reports have now emerged that Arsenal will try to persuade Jermain Defoe to make a controversial move from Spurs to Arsenal.

Another mass protest at the sheer injustice of it all is undoubtedly being arranged by Spurs fans as I type this.

The club just can’t seem to wade off interest in their players, with Chelsea having a bid for midfielder Luka Modric rejected. The offer – a paltry £22m – is too low according to the Croat’s agent.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to tempt Edin Dzeko away from his bench-warming role at Man City by promoting him to a bench-warming role at Real Madrid.

Speaking of potential bench-warmers, Man United will launch a £12m bid for Blackpool’s Scottish international Charlie Adam, as they look to fill the void left following Paul Scholes’ retirement.

Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas are giving mixed signals as to where their future lies, if all reports are to be believed. According to the Metro, they are perfectly happy to stay put at Arsenal.

The Daily Star says that Nasri will stay provided the club offer him a new contract worth roughly £6m a year. There’s always a catch.

Meanwhile Fabregas has rather cryptically stated that a move to Barcelona “guarantees titles”. Well, duh!

Joey ‘addicted to causing controversy’ Barton has slammed Newcastle for agreeing to let Kevin Nolan move to West Ham, and has indicated that himself, Jonás Gutiérrez and José Enrique may be the next players to be sold.

Barton may not be the new Roy Keane in terms of talent but his penchant for saying things he probably shouldn’t is certainly reminiscent of the Corkman.

Finally, Salomon Kalou has attacked Chelsea’s stars for sulking when they didn’t make the starting line-up and claims their behaviour scuppered his side’s chances of winning the Premier League.

Top-flight footballers engaging in prima donna behaviour? Surely not.
