The Departures Lounge: Liverpool and Spurs stock up on strikers

Emmanuel Adebayor’s services have been secured by Tottenham while Brendan Rodgers has made his first signing of the year.

THE CATALYST FOR Europe’s transfer merry-go-round may yet prove to be the €65m double transfer deal Paris Saint Germain look to be on the verge of pulling off to capture the signatures of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva.

Although Ibra’ agent has claimed the deal is ‘far away’ from being complete but, if it goes through, PSG will have arrived at the top table and AC Milan will have a lot of lolly to spend.

Expect to see the name (and letters) PSG a lot more over the course of this beautifully dank summer.

GOING??

PSG’s name will also be dropped by any leading football agent with half a brain this summer, in an effort to up the wages or inflate the transfer figure of his/her star charge. The latest player to be linked with the French side is Luka Modric. Tottenham Hotspur are notorious for squeezing cash from courting football clubs and the arrival (real or imagined) of PSG into the fray will strengthen the negotiating position of the Londoners.

They were mutterings on Thursday that AC Milan could use any spare cash they had lying around to go after trophy-hunting Robin van Persie. If the huge double transfer goes through, with PSG, it seems more likely that the Italian side will train their sights on loveable Argentinean Carlos Tevez.

GOING?

Florent Malouda was a Fantasy Football must for two Premier League seasons as he blasted in goals from long range and contributed with a healthy number of assists. The French midfielder may now be off to Brazil next season, with Santos saying they had opened ‘informal talks’ with him. Botafogo and Vasco de Gama are also keeping an eye on developments.

Alex Ferguson tried his best to convince Wesley Sneijder to sign up to the Manchester United cause last summer before seemingly excessive wage demands put any such deal on ice.

Inter Milan might be willing to let the Dutchman go at a cheaper price this year as they try to raise funds for Brazilian star Lucas Moura. “Could Sneijder follow Eto’o's path?,” said Inter president Massimo Moratti. “It’s possible that there could be such a risk.”

GONE

Brendan Rodgers hinted that Liverpool would make a signing this week and he was not lying. He has been, once again, reunited with Fabio Borini. No loan deals this time, however, as Rodgers has convinced Liverpool to shell out £12m for the striker’s services.

Another forward who has been passed around more times than an athlete’s baton is Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Togolese international was briefly on fire at Spurs while on loan last season before occasionally smouldering. Still, it was enough for Andre Villas Boas to secure his signature on a full-time contract of employment at White Hart Lane.

Spurs and the Toffees, meanwhile, are in talks about permanently sending Steven Pienaar back to Goodison Park.

One man on his way out of the Premiership is Paddy Kenny. The former Irish international goalkeeper is off to Leeds United on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee. Alan Smith, formerly of Leeds and Manchester United, has signed with Milton Keynes.
