The best bits from the final episode of the Rod Squad

The four-part documentary came to an end last night.

After Monaghan are forced to pull out of the Premier Division, Roddy brings the players together to apologise for the situation they find themselves in. “There will be other days and other clubs”, he ensures them

“I just want to say it has been a pleasure playing for you. I’m devastated. Thanks very much for everything you did for me.” Player Keith Quinn thanks the gaffer

Feeling guilty, Roddy does his best to get the players fixed up with other clubs and admits the whole ordeal has taken its toll

Next up is a trip to Dublin 4 for a discussion on MNS

Reflecting on the Mons’ downfall, club volunteer Colm Mahony bemoans the fact that Irish football fans choose English clubs over ones at home

It’s time for Roddy to think about his own future and he looks at the possibility of a move to Asia

This is why filming in dressing rooms is a bad idea

In one last symbolic action, he takes down the goalposts in the Phoenix Park, which served Monaghan for training

What’s next for Roddy? A new challenge. This time in the Midlands

3 players who enhanced their reputation during the Confederations Cup

Ferry pleased to rejoin Derry after Sunderland adventure

Did anyone else find this series – while interesting – a complete Roddy Collins love-in? The demise of Monaghan United is a tragic story of Irish football fans just not caring about local clubs, but this just seemed to show him in a perfect light.

I’ve my own reasons for disliking the man (I am a Bohs fan, after all), but it didn’t seem to show any negativity.
