That Eamon Dunphy is some clown, isn't he?

Shoppers and passers-by were greeted by quite a surreal sight on Dublin’s Grafton Street on Tuesday morning.

“HE’S A CLOWN, Bill!”

Many’s the overpaid scamp dismissed by Eamon Dunphy on RTE, but it was the pundit who was forced to play dress-up on Dublin’s Grafton Street on Tuesday morning.

Dunphy had said before the tournament that he would make the public show of himself if Ireland failed to make the quarter-finals, and he was true to his word as he donned the costume and a sign that read: ‘I GOT IT WRONG!’

“Not for the first time I got it wrong but this time I’ve really paid a very heavy price with this public self-flagellation,” said the man himself.

“I really fancied the lads to get out of the group but the campaign has been a massive anti-climax. Having said that, I’m sure this humiliation will put a smile back on the face of at least half of the Irish viewing public!”

The Peter McVerry trust received a €500 donation from Betfair as a result of Eamon’s pledge.

Are you missing a couple of zeros off that pledge? €500 is derisory. I actually can’t believe they would make such a small donation.

Sure Paddy Power just threw 100k to uefa there!

but why did he expect us to get out of the group? not one of the irish players are in a champions league side, we dont really have much in the way of world class, to be fair some people were expecting them to be better than they are and our opposition only had to be their own average and still be better, i for one am just delighted we got there at all

Fair bloody play to him. All these pundits are great at mouthing off when they get something right, not many admit it when they get it wrong, and even fewer do it this way. Hats off to him.

Himself and Nicolas Bendtner seem happy to embarrass themselves for a few quid from the bookmakers, I’m sure Eamonn got more from Betfair than the 500 they gave to charity, and Im sure Betfair will get more than 500 euro worth of attention, still at least he wasn’t representing his country when doing this stunt.
