KATIE TAYLOR WILL meet Natasha Jonas on Monday in the lightweight quarter-finals, after the British boxer beat the USA’s Queen Underwood 21-13 in her first bout of the Olympics.
She defeated Underwood in three of the four rounds, ultimately winning 3-4, 4-2, 6-3, 8-4.
Consequently, Jonas will now meet Taylor at 2.30pm on Monday.
Meanwhile, Ireland’s John Joe Nevin will take on Oscar Fierro at 8.45pm tonight, with a place in the semi-finals of the Men’s Bantam up for grabs.
On paper Katie should do it, but the way team GB have been performing at these games, it won’t be easy. Go Katie go!!!
Come on Katie, you can do it girl the whole of Ireland is behind you !!!
Great fight today…the british girl is very good and Katie will have to beat her in her own backyard..It won’t be easy but she should have enough to see her through
Just out from the excel and the atmosphere during the jonas underwood fight was electric. Never experienced it before. Would be hard for judges not to be influenced in a close fight. Katie should do it but she still has to win it on her own. Come on Katie.
The home support would be all I’d be worried about. When it comes to boxing Katie is light years ahead of this girl, a different planet
It was some fight… And watching a Nigerian animal fighting now… Woman’s boxing is class
There’s some pressure on Katie Taylor for tomorrow but win or lose she is a true Irish sporting legend the whole country will be cheering her on. C’mon Katie
Katie’s father is from Leeds.
So if she comes through tomorrow should be in good shape for some home support.
Good luck tomorrow Katie x were proud of you whatever the outcome
Good luck to Katie and Annalise tomorrow
Your article says Katie is British ????????? WTF?
Whoops never mind.
Dude read it properly!!
Read it again. The woman she’ll be facing is British.

This is gonna be great! As much as the country is behind every one of our sports stars in London (and they are, every one of them, stars) I think the Irish will watch with baited breath tomorrow.
Incidentally does anyone know if you can watch it online? I won’t be near a tv.
