TAHITI WERE ALWAYS going to be up against it on their debut appearance at the Confederations Cup.
The Oceania champions, ranked 138th in the world, have just one professional player in their squad and took on African heavyweights Nigeria last night.
They were behind after just five minutes when a shot was deflected in off defender Nicolas Vallar and went on to concede another five in a 6-1 defeat.
In the 54th minute, however, Jonathan Tehau (one of three brothers in their squad) powered home a header at the back post – and, after saying their ultimate aim was to score a goal in Brazil, the South Pacific islanders went wild.
