SWEDEN ARE LEVEL with Group C rivals Ireland and Austria after a 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands in Gothenburg.
The home side took 35 minutes to score when Mikael Lustig got down the right hand side to cross before captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic converted home on the volley.
The Faroes were given a lifeline when defender Andreas Granqvist was sent off for violent conduct but Ibrahimovic, who avoided picking up a yellow card and will be available to play against Ireland in September, stroked home a penalty two minutes later when Jona Thor Naes fouled in the area.

Maybe people will stop lambasting Ireland and their results now. Neither Germany or Sweden did any better against the Faroes and those who gave out against our performances against Armenia and co, just look what Armenia did to Denmark. I agree we’re not playing the best football we can but can we please stop saying we’re in dire straits. We’re joint second in the group. Granted we should be there alone (shouldve beat Austria) but second place in a European group is nothing to be sniffed at.
