NFL bosses ditch Super Bowl Roman numerals (but only for one year)

THE NFL HAS decided to break with tradition and ditch the Roman numerals for Super Bowl 50.

The 2016 American football showpiece will be the first in over 40 years not to use Roman numerals.

And officials insisted that “this will only be a one-time, one-year change.”

“When we developed the Super Bowl XL logo, that was the first time we looked at the letter L,” Jamie Weston, NFL’s vice president of brand and creative told ESPN.

“Up until that point, we had only worked with Xs, Vs, and Is. And at that moment, that’s when we started to wonder what will happen when we get to 50?”
