Sunshine on Leith: Hibs sign Doyle from Sligo

Dubliner Eoin Doyle has signed an 18-month deal to join SPL club Hibernian.

EOIN DOYLE HAS become the second Sligo Rovers player to trade the Showgrounds for the SPL in recent weeks after completing his transfer to Hibernian.

Doyle put pen to paper on an 18-month deal which will see him remain at Easter Road until the end of the 2012/2013 season, the Edinburgh club confirmed this evening.

He is due to be unveiled to the Scottish media at a press conference tomorrow though, like former Bit O’Red team-mate Richie Ryan at Dundee United, he will not be eligible to play for Hibs until the transfer window opens in the new year.

Doyle scored 20 league goals for Sligo last year, making him an ideal candidate as new boss Pat Fenlon sought to bring in some low-cost but effective firepower as the first signing of his tenure.

The final details of the switch were ironed out today after Doyle further impressed by scoring in a closed-doors friendly against St Johnstone earlier this week.

Although Doyle is out of contract with Sligo, a spokesperson told BBC Scotland that the club will seeking compensation for the 23-year-old’s transfer in line with UEFA’s training and development policy.
