DAVID MOYES’ MISERY continued this evening as Sunderland dumped Manchester United out of the Capital One Cup on penalties.
United full-back Rafael missed the decisive penalty to send Sunderland through to the Wembley final against Manchester City.
It was United who had one foot in the final after Jonny Evans levelled the tie at 2-2 on aggregate, forcing the game to extra-time but still leaving Sunderland in need of another goal under the competition’s away goals rule.

Gus Poyet’s side appeared to have snatched victory at the death when David de Gea fumbled Phil Bardsley’s low shot into his net in the final minute of extra time.
Mike Egerton/EMPICS Sport
But United were not done and deep into stoppage time, Javier Hernandez got on the end of Adnan Januzaj’s low cross and finished off the underside of the crossbar.
What followed then was one of the most comically inept displays of penalty-taking in recent memory.
Martin Rickett/PA Wire
The first two penalties, by Sunderland’s Craig Gardner and United’s Danny Welbeck, were blasted over the bar before Steven Fletcher’s effort was saved by David de Gea.
Darren Fletcher eventually scored to put United 1-0 up but misses from Januzaj, Phil Jones and crucially Rafael proved costly as Marcos Alonso and Ki Sung-Yeung did just enough to send the Black Cats to Wembley — and pile the pressure on Moyes.
He’s obviously a panic buy anyway, I doubt he’s even a Moyes target, Moyes picks usually lesser players to sign from mid-table teams and lower (Everton excluded), I’d say Ferguson is pulling the Mata transfer strings and telling Moyes to sit in the corner and stay quiet. Hopefully Moyes stays forever!
Juan Mata ? I’d say ye need at least Four Mata’s !!!! I’ll say it again Moyes is well out of his dept and the players dont respect him. Until this changes United will suffer long term. I’m a Liverpool fan but at the same time like to give an honest opinion.
Oh please! You soft soft child. It was only a micky mouse cup when Liverpool won it according to united supporters. My local bar was like watching the champions league final tonight over what you call “a micky mouse cup” Only a micky mouse cup when the mancs get knocked out of it according to you clowns.Back to bed now like a good child
As a United fan, I will put my hands up and say that right now (outside of college) I am experiencing a period of sheer disappointment. Now I know what it feels like to be on the end of some slack, and it sure isn’t pretty by any means.
Yes but utd do not need him, they already have two top class no. 10′s they do not need another one, just cos he’s a good player doesn’t mean he’s a good buy. they need CM its the same difference as buying another world class goalkeeper.. what’s the point when u already have one.
That pharrell Williams songs comes to mind “cos I’m happy” Everybody sing it with “cos I’m happy” next time you hear that song think of when united loosing
Such Crap penalties from United. The players are a disgrace they dont deserve to wear the United Jersey> i’m starting to think The players dont respect Moyes.
Don’t think they respected him from day one. The same players as there more or less as last season. Can you imagine them putting in a performance like that if Ferguson was still in charge?!
They played rubbish plenty of times when Ferguson was manager. Moyes is the right man for the job, a lot of the current players just aren’t good enough though.
Hi John Hayes, take a look at the guy who originally posted and who I was referring too a Mr John Dean with said United crest as his avatar. Then maybe head on back to sleep
Not my fault you can’t read in between the lines why would I tell u to change your avatar it would have nothing to go with the comments. It shouldn’t have taken Einstein to read in between the lines. I’ll make sure to mention your full name if I’m commenting in future should I take a middle name just encase there is another John Hayes commenting to avoid future confusion.
Lol, they were some of the worst penalties I’ve ever seen. Might be a blessing in disguise for Utd. as they won’t be embarrassed by City in the final now.
Pressure and Cahones. Good joke going round online about isn’t it ironic how the only Man Utd player not to s##t himself taking a penalty was Darren Fletcher.
Think united are probably better off losing that. City would love to hammer them in any final cup, and wouldn’t be great for their confidence leading into the run up for European places.
From what I’ve heard (and its rumour), Zaha like the ladies, the booze and partying. None of which are in moderation, especially not for an professional footballer. He’s just not there on the training ground, can’t even get into starting 11 of the reserves. Its a shame since he’s a real talent, but there has to be a reason off the pitch
The Empire is Crumbling. Anyone who buys into this statement does not know a lot about the game. For years big clubs have dominated for periods followed by downturns. Yes I’ll agree it’s the end of an era for United, it was also the end of an era for Barca in the late 90s early 00s after the spectacular Cruyff period. It was the end of an Era for Juve a few years ago. Real went through a transition after the original galacticos anyone remember the Klass Jan Hunteelar and Roysten Drente era, Bayern, Milan Inter etc etc all huge clubs all have had intermittent periods of success usually followed by a change of regimes and always come back. Trouble is A lot of people seem to want to compare The Utd situation to that which it apparently must closely resembles, Liverpool however the Liverpool era ended in the late 80s English clubs were still banned from Europe. Plus Liverpools transition period was followed by some awful decisions terrible managerial appointments and just when things started looking up one of the worst takeovers in History. Utd at present (despite what your reading about the glazers) are a stable club with money to spend and a huge worldwide fan base. We’ve also hired the right manager so long as he’s given time. Were down and will have a few years before were back so ABUs enjoy this time we’ve given out plenty of stick we deserve to take some in return. Swings & Roundabouts lads
I really doubt they’ll sell at all Ronan, what I do know is after the signing of Mata the glazers will have spent 67 million this summer, not bad for a club with no money to spend. Albeit 27.7 on Feleini but I do think hell do alright once he settles
Well they spent last seasons CL money on Fellaini and are gambling this seasons on Mata, they’ve not had to dip their hands in their own pockets yet this season at all despoite all the talk of a war-chest.
They’re business men, not Utd fans and when the costs start to outweigh the income,. (No CL money left for next season after Mata, No CL = reduced Season Tickets, No trophies = no Sponsorship Bonus Income etc., etc..) the clock starts ticking…
So do you really believe that Mata is the answer to Man Utd’s problems i.e. a midfield without any real leader and a defence that is being shredded..?? Really they’re only replacing Giggs, who is clearly not in any of Moyes plans even short term…..
I wouldn’t disagree with the snowball effect it’s possible but unlikely However while I don’t think Mata will magically solve all Uniteds problems I don’t think paying big money for probably one of the best Midfielders in the premiership over the last 2 seasons can be considered a gamble.
Why don’t all you plastic glory fans just support another team now that Man Ure are on the wane? Or, how about this, follow a team that actually has IRISH players?
It was funny, but it was also shocking and sad because it was so funny in light of Manchester United. For the love of Christ, will someone not shake that board at United by the scruff of the collar into reality. It hasn’t worked.
Accept it and move on, now! Moyes is and will always be a great old-school manager with any average club. United are not old-school nor an average club. They are far more than that. I’m starting to wonder now if the board and owners are simply happy to see United slip as far back as their City rivals years ago.
There is a sinking acceptance of mediocrity and lack of creativeness and passion filtered right down from board to players. Yes, manager and players are equally responsible, but there is something deeper that has gone wrong since the Fergie handover and it does not bode well.
I’m not a united fan but I’d be cautious if I was a pool fan ya wouldn’t know what could happen moyes Everton always had a good run of form at some stage of the season
Except, like trains the end eventually comes, and sometimes it wallops you in the face if you stick your head out too far. I take your point, but I heard the same stuff before Christmas. Ain’t nothin’ changin’ end of January.
And was Chelsea’s player of the year 2 years in a row, plays for Spain and in every statistical category he should be good at is in the top 10 in premiership?
But in the last 2 years Chelsea haven’t been that good, very easy for him to shine with mediocre players around him. They sign a few decent midfielders and he’s suddenly found out, Man Utd are now signing Chelsea rejects. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Torres heading to Old Trafford yet.
Sir Alex may need to come out of retirement….. I feel sorry for united but to be fair they had it good for long enough… Now its time for some new blood so to speak to enter the race & make the whole competition a bit exciting again… was getting to predictable with united winning all the time…

Breaking news: Juan mata arrested reversing down the M62!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
He’s obviously a panic buy anyway, I doubt he’s even a Moyes target, Moyes picks usually lesser players to sign from mid-table teams and lower (Everton excluded), I’d say Ferguson is pulling the Mata transfer strings and telling Moyes to sit in the corner and stay quiet. Hopefully Moyes stays forever!
As a utd fan that m62 comment has to be comment of the week !!
Take a bow, sir.
Ok I’m a united fan and I’m actually seeing the funny side of it!
Does Mata live in Hull?
Dont want to be a dampener but you copied that straight off twitter
Nope me mate sent it too me, I thought it was worth re posting. Yes, it should have been the m6, so apologies for geographical errors!

Why you getting worked up Jonny ? After all its only the Mickey Mouse cup.
Sure no worries Ben. Most United fans couldn’t find Manchester on a map anyway…
Problem is, John, that was United’s best chance of silverware this season. Even winning the Charity Shield doesn’t exactly mean a whole pile.
I’m not worked uoup.I’m loving it :-)
Mata is no more a panic buy than Ozil for Arsenal. Absolutely world class player and proven in the Premier League.
The Ferguson legacy
Jaysus, Just on Sky, Mata hands in Transfer request at Old Trafford…. This is just breaking news right now…..
Owe luck anuther grammer nazi
@ Glen Brian bye the weigh
Yes but utd do not need him, they already have two top class no. 10′s they do not need another one, just cos he’s a good player doesn’t mean he’s a good buy. they need CM its the same difference as buying another world class goalkeeper.. what’s the point when u already have one.
Sorry Jonny wires crossed haha
That was worth the sky subscription alone!
David Moyes in the post match interview has confirmed that the Capital One Cup is still very much in play and still their target.
That pharrell Williams songs comes to mind “cos I’m happy” Everybody sing it with “cos I’m happy” next time you hear that song think of when united loosing
Could be a blessing for utd…City would have tore them a new a*** hole in the final
That was woeful from united.
Did they only score Juan penalty?
Please don’t ever speak again
Such Crap penalties from United. The players are a disgrace they dont deserve to wear the United Jersey> i’m starting to think The players dont respect Moyes.
Don’t think they respected him from day one. The same players as there more or less as last season. Can you imagine them putting in a performance like that if Ferguson was still in charge?!
*are there*
David Moyes has vowed to win a European competition next season …. Even if he’s to write and sing the song himself.
They played rubbish plenty of times when Ferguson was manager. Moyes is the right man for the job, a lot of the current players just aren’t good enough though.
Snap…
Will u be changing your picture to a Chelsea crest next season John !
Images of Dougal and Ted flooding my mind….
Shane, well said, Moyes should be given as much time as he needs :)
Ah why would I do that Paul I’m a Liverpool fan the picture is Croke Park ???
Hi John Hayes, take a look at the guy who originally posted and who I was referring too a Mr John Dean with said United crest as his avatar. Then maybe head on back to sleep
You said John not Hayes or Deane you scrotum ! By the way it looks more like scaffolding rather than the Theatre of Screams.
As a united fan all I can do is laugh. If I didnt id cry. Worst penalty shootout I have ever seen…..
Some of those players are a disgrace.
Still laughing. Too funny.
MOYES MUST STAY MOYES MUST STAY!!
How much are they paid again?
Lol, they were some of the worst penalties I’ve ever seen. Might be a blessing in disguise for Utd. as they won’t be embarrassed by City in the final now.
I don’t understand how players can be paid that much money and not be able to take a decent shot at a goal that big.
They get paid thousands and thousands of pounds. It’s literally their job to be good at football. And that’s the standard.
Pressure and Cahones. Good joke going round online about isn’t it ironic how the only Man Utd player not to s##t himself taking a penalty was Darren Fletcher.
Reason Zaha hasnt got a chance under Moyes is because he’s been mainly under Moyes’ s daughter !
I feel sorry for moyes he is getting no luck at the moment ..
Moyes spent most of his career trying to get Everton ahead of utd in the league. He’s finally succeeded!
We know, Niall. Heard it a thousand times. Tip on.
Think united are probably better off losing that. City would love to hammer them in any final cup, and wouldn’t be great for their confidence leading into the run up for European places.
I don’t think Man United are in the business of thinking about missing out on cup finals to be honest..
To all the united fans out there ha ha ur team is a mess and the manager is crap
Always good to see United lose
Why is that James?
Because a certain ex United manager said his greatest achievement was knocking Liverpool off their perch. Some nice karma.
Funnier than the penalties was Gary Neville in the post game analysis repeating over and over that UTD had actually won the game…
37 million for Mata and Zaha joining Cardiff on loan. Cant understand why Moyes didnt give Zaha a chance
Yeah, the daughter…. He knows how to score…
Wasn’t a case of the best team winning as the worst team loosing, may as well give Man City the trophy now
That what everyone said about the fa cup last season & look what happened
There gonna need a big table for the pizza hut advert

MUFC, not arrogant, just better.
Touch of sarcasm there by the way!
Mark youve been storing that one away for quite some time to throw back. Fair play
Any truth in the rumour that Man U are going to buy the Aviva – so they can be nearer to their fan base?
BREAKING NEWS: Juan Mata arrested after being caught attempting a U-Turn half way up the M6.
You obviously don’t read the previous comments posted….
Well Pete at least I got the road correct, surely an important element of the joke?
#INMOYESWETRUST.
De Gea
Smalling Vidic jones. Evra
Valencia felleini. Janazi
Mata
Rooney. Van Persie
Better looking team now and maybe another one or two additions
Still shocking performance and Moyes still not sure he is the right man
Vidic and Evra past it. De Gea and Jones not good enough. Good team going forward but would conceed loads also
Smalling???
Are you David Moyes, get out of here..
De gea is absolutely up to it!!
Mata a panic buy? get f**king real.
Breaking their own transfer record to sign a player that Jose obviously dosn’t rate? Sounds like panic to me.
And was Chelsea’s player of the year 2 years in a row, plays for Spain and in every statistical category he should be good at is in the top 10 in premiership?

Seriously the worst comment I have ever read
Ok
You’ve got to feel sorry for Moyes. He is in danger of the worst accolade in football – being Man United’s Graham Souness

Sir Alex may need to come out of retirement….. I feel sorry for united but to be fair they had it good for long enough… Now its time for some new blood so to speak to enter the race & make the whole competition a bit exciting again… was getting to predictable with united winning all the time…
Calm down….. you mad bro? -_-
