Luis Suarez is going nowhere, insists Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers

Reports in the British press today suggested Manchester City were weighing up a £40million bid for the Uruguayan.

LIVERPOOL MANAGER Brendan Rodgers insists striker Luis Suarez will be at Anfield when the transfer window closes at the end of January.

Reports in the British press today suggested Manchester City were weighing up a £40million bid for the Uruguay international after Christmas.

City have distanced themselves from that link, with club sources claiming there are no plans for a move for the 25-year-old. And Rodgers today again insisted Suarez is staying on Merseyside.

“There will be no bidding war. He’s staying here,” said the Northern Irishman told Sky Sports News.

“If we lost Luis then we’ve got no strikers. I don’t think we can afford to lose anyone. He’s certainly not someone we want to sell or move on.

“He’s been a brilliant player to work with and we want to add to our squad, not take people out of it, especially a world-class player.”

“We just continue to work and stay focused on what we try to achieve,” added the Reds boss. ”Luis has already shown in the summer his commitment to the club, he’s signed a new deal. I think you’ve seen up until this point he’s in a great moment in his footballing life here at Liverpool: he is scoring goals and working well.

“I’ll just continue to communicate with all the players and Luis in particular. Like I say, he’s very happy here.”

Strikers’ union

Speaking at an event in Waterford last night meanwhile, Kop favourite, Robbie Fowler told Martin Clancy of Beat 102-103: “I love [Suarez] to bits.

“I think he’s everything that big clubs need, he’s a special talent and can pull goals from anywhere. Admittedly he does miss the odd chance, but we can forgive him as his record so far is fantastic.

“Last year as well people said he didn’t score enough goals, but he almost had one in two, so he is missing chances but as long as he keeps scoring the goals like he is, I’m certainly happy. Hopefully some other players will help him out in the future.”
