Stoke's Wilkinson charged after Balotelli clash

Wilkinson was involved in an altercation with the Italian during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium.

STOKE CITY DEFENDER Andy Wilkinson was charged with violent conduct by the Football Association today following a clash with Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli.

Wilkinson was involved in an altercation with the Italian during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at the Britannia Stadium which was not seen by the match officials but was caught on video.

Balotelli went down after an off-the-ball run-in with Wilkinson and referee Mark Clattenburg spoke to the players but took no action. Replays did not suggest anything serious had occurred but Wilkinson has been charged and has until Wednesday evening to respond to the charge.
