Steven Gerrard out for at least four weeks

The Anfield favourite will be aiming for a return to action in the FA Cup third round.

LIVERPOOL CAPTAIN Steven Gerrard will be out of action for at least four weeks with a hamstring injury, the club have confirmed.

The 33-year-old midfielder sustained the problem while taking a shot in the second half of his side’s 4-1 win over West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Gerrard underwent a scan on Monday and the results were made public on Thursday, with the club revealing that he will miss the remainder of 2013.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed on the club’s official website: “Steven is, as reported, probably going to be up to about four weeks or so.

“So he’ll go through an extensive treatment programme over the next numbers of weeks and hopefully we can get him back that little bit sooner.

“But certainly at this stage, it was a four to six-week injury and we’ll see how we look with that.”

The England captain, who has started all 15 of Liverpool’s Premier League games this term, will now miss the club’s matches against Tottenham on Sunday, Cardiff City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Hull City.

It remains to be seen what part – if any – he will play in the FA Cup third-round clash against either Oldham Athletic or Mansfield Town at the start of January.

Do you not think this might actually be a positive for the team though?! The team needs to start to move forward without him as he won’t be around forever. Liverpool have been playing some really enjoyable football this season and honestly Gerard hasn’t really been a main contributor to that, better to have him yes but I think Liverpool might find they don’t struggle as much as they think without him in the team. I’m not a Liverpool fan either I’m an Arsenal fan in case people think I’m pro Liverpool! Haha!

I’m a Liverpool fan and I agree completely. He has been good ok this season and has settled into his new role further back, but Liverpool need to start playing without his influence

Glad to see somebody agrees! Haha! I just don’t think it’s the dreadful news some think it is, Liverpool have been good this season, quite good actually, and Steven Gerard hasn’t contributed a lot to that success!

Quite plainly you are talking nonsense, Gerrard has the most amount of assists in the league, Liverpool have scored from more set pieces than any other club. I know you lads are looking at the big picture, but Gerrard being out for the busiest four weeks in the calender is obviously not a good thing.

He is the JOINT leader in assists with 6, along with Mesut Ozil, you make a valid point and I do take back parts of what I said, it would be better to have him for this busy part of the season, but I do still believe it won’t be as bad as people think!

Lucas is underrated, he sits back, picks off passes and does the simple things well! Henderson is still yet to convince me he’s worth how much he cost, but this has been his best season yet, he seems to be finding his feet it seems! Can’t really argue for Joe Allen though, he just hasn’t been great! Haha! You’ve left out Coutinho though, he’s a fantastic attacking threat who oftentimes comes from deep!

Lucas is not the same player since his knee injury and just consistently fouls. Time to ship him out. Henderson will prove to be a decent player without ever setting the world alight as for Allen, well as for Allen

Whatever about Man c and Chelsea,we have to win on Sunday…
Cardiff at home, have to put them away and if we got one even two draws from the next two games it would be a nice Christmas,
    Thats 8 pts from 12,
Minimum 6pts required tho,Suarez cant do it on his own, need someone step up like Joe Allen or Alberto!!
Defence need to go embrace their inner Scrooge!!
