RONAN O’GARA HAS denied reports that he is set to exit Munster after some parts of the media ran with claims that he had agreed to join Top 14 side Toulon.
A fake Twitter account in his name tweeted: “Breaking news guys.. wanted to leave it until after six nations. Just been confirmed moving to Toulon on a two year deal!”
Some media outlets, including The Daily Mail,then falsely reported the news online, which led the 35-year-old, who came on as a substitute in Ireland’s 30-9 defeat to England at Twickenham yesterday, to respond via his real account by quashing the accusations.
O’Gara said the information was ‘inaccurate’ and reiterated his commitment to the province which he has played for since making his debut in 1997.
Fake accounts should be shut down immediately and if the person being misrepresented is defamed in any way criminal charges should be pursued. No matter what country the account was set up in there are liable laws against it. Ronan O Gara is just one of many sports stars on twitter with fake accounts set up in their name.
