Start spreading the news: Sligo name team for Championship opener v New York

Kevin Walsh has made three changes as Sligo get Championship 2012 underway.

SLIGO MANAGER KEVIN WALSH has made three changes for Sunday’s Connacht Football Championship opener against New York.

The Yeats men travelled out to the Big Apple yesterday on the back of a mixed league campaign in which they finished third in Division 3, missing out on promotion.

They will be without defender David Rooney who has stayed at home due to exam commitments, so Charles Harrison of St John’s comes into the half-back line in his place.

Pat Hughes and Stephen Coen both start in the forwards, forcing a positional reshuffle which sees Shane McManus drop back to partner Tony Taylor in midfield and Eugene Mullen miss out.

Injured forward David Kelly travelled with the squad but is unlikely to feature on Sunday.

Throw-in at Gaelic Park is at 3pm.

Sligo (SFC v New York): Philip Greene; Neil Ewing, Noel McGuire, Ross Donavan (c); Charles Harrison, Mark Quinn, Paul McGovern; Tony Taylor, Shane McManus; Brendan Egan, Pat Hughes, Alan Costello; Stephen Coen, Adrian Marren, Mark Breheny.
