FORMER PREMIER LEAGUE footballer Stan Collymore has this morning appeared on a host of television and radio stations criticising Twitter for failing to deal with internet trolls who have been bombarding him with abuse on the social media site.
Yesterday, the ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa player, who currently works as a football pundit for Talksport, retweeted a series of racist and offensive messages sent to him before calling upon Twitter to take action.
“I accuse Twitter directly of not doing enough to combat racist/homophobic/sexist hate messages, all of which are illegal in the UK,” he posted.
In the last 24 hours I’ve been threatened with murder several times, demeaned on my race, and many of these accounts are still active. Why?”
Later, he wrote: “Dead @twitterUK. Thousands of UK citizens are fed up with hate speech and pictures demonising on race/religion/sex. Will you do something?”
Collymore has also contacted the police in relation to the messages.
While featuring on BBC News this morning, he took offence when the presenter suggested he has been on “the wrong side of the law” in the past.
