Stalling for time: Anxious Horan waits on injured stars

Mayo manager looks set to finally name his starting XV this evening.

MAYO BOSS JAMES HORAN appears to be holding out for a miracle as he waits to name his side ahead of  Sunday’s All-Ireland Football semi-final against Kerry.

With a number of key players struggling to prove their fitness, Horan has twice delayed the announcement of his starting line, firstly on Wednesday and again yesterday evening.

But with just over 48 hours now remaining before throw-in at headquarters, both Trevor Mortimer and Peadar Gardiner face an uphill battle if they are to win their race against the clock.

Of the two, Mortimer looks the more likely to make an appearance. The Shrule-Glencorrib has been undergoing treatment since he picked up a relatively minor quad strain while training with the inter-county panel last week.

Should he fail to make it in time, former minor and U21 star Lee Keegan could be in line for a first Championship start in the half-back line.

Gardiner, who has been involved with the senior squad since 2003, pulled his hamstring while training with club Crossmolina.
