TOTTENHAM HAVE SIGNED defender Federico Fazio from Sevilla.
Spurs have paid the €10 million buyout clause in Fazio’s contract and the Argentine has agreed a four-year contract to move to White Hart Lane.
The 27-year-old will replace Michael Dawson after Tottenham sold their club captain to Hull. Tottenham pushed through a deal to sign Fazio after all but giving up on their chances of signing Villarreal centre-back Mateo Musacchio.
Spurs hoped to sign Musacchio in a €21m deal but the transfer hit the rocks over third-party ownership issues and a sell-on clause due to his former club River Plate.
Fazio has made two appearances for Argentina and was Sevilla’s captain last season as the Spanish club won the Europa League.
Tottenham are expecting a busy end to the transfer window, with a number of players potentially leaving the club as Mauricio Pochettino looks to trim his squad.
Vlad Chiriches, Sandro, Paulinho and Lewis Holtby are among the players who could be sold before the window closes next Monday.
