Sports stars renew their support for Gaza flotilla

A HOST OF sporting icons have renewed their call for the Irish public to “stay human” and support the Gaza aid flotilla’s latest mission.

Tipperary hurling captain Eoin Kelly has joined rugby stars Trevor Hogan, Jerry Flannery, Gordon D’Arcy and Shane Horgan in a new video message to raise awareness and funds for the MV Saoirse’s forthcoming expedition.

In June, the Irish ship was due to sail to Gaza as part of a “freedom flotilla” which hoped to breach the ongoing Israeli blockade and deliver aid.

However, the mission had to be abandoned when the ship was damaged while docked in the Turkish port of Gocek.  The organisers, Irish Ship to Gaza, described the damage as an “act of sabotage.”

The ship’s damaged propeller has since been repaired, prompting this latest call for support.
