Title: Chris Waddle- The French Way
Director: Gabriel Clarke
Release Date: 23 April 1993
Plot: Chris Waddle was one of the best players of his generation even before his move to Marseille in 1989. The skilful midfielder had been a regular for England for years and had been a fan favourite at both Newcastle and Tottenham before he decided to move to the south of France.
This documentary chronicles Waddle’s successes in Marseille, where he won three league titles (albeit amidst accusations of match fixing; Marseille were stripped of their 1993 league title but Waddle was no longer at the club).
The documentary has great footage of Waddle’s flair that won him so many plaudits, and if nothing else, watch it so you can see him do a “Joey Barton” 20 years before we even knew what that was. Waddle blazed a trail over there in more ways than one.
Here it is in full.
