ARGENTINA AND SOUTH AFRICA drew 16-all draw in the Rugby Championship at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas on Saturday.
The hosts had lost their opening match to South Africa 27-6 in Cape Town last week but produced their best result in 15 matches against the 2007 World Cup champions.
Argentina went into the half-time break holding a 13-3 lead on the back of a Santiago Fernandez try and it took until the 65th minute for the Springboks to level.
Francois Steyn crossed the line with 15 minutes remaining after charging down a Marcelo Bosch kick before Morne Steyn converted to tie the match.
Morne Steyn had the chance to win the match for the visitors however the 28-year-old missed the 74th-minute penalty kick.
There will be no Rugby Championship action next weekend but it will return on September 8 when Argentina travels to Wellington to face the All Blacks, while South Africa visits Perth to tackle the Wallabies on September 8.
The All Blacks lead the standings on eight points, with South Africa second (6), Argentina third (2) and Robbie Deans’ Wallabies without a point.
