Snooker wrap: Slow start for O'Sullivan, as Maguire crushes Hendry dream

It’s been a dramatic day at the Crucible. Here’s everything you need to know about the quarter-final action so far.

STEPHEN MAGUIRE EARNED a comfortable 13-2 victory over Stephen Hendry to advance to the semi-finals of the World Championship this evening, prompting his opponent to retire in the process.

Maguire outclassed Hendry to establish a 7-1 lead in the first session, and there was no sign of an improvement from his fellow Scot thereafter.

Maguire then won the next four frames, including a 125 break, before Hendry managed to pull a frame back.

However, Maguire subsequently won the next two frames to seal his victory.

In today’s other encounters, there was little to separate Matthew Stevens and Ryan Day, as the former currently leads the latter 8-5.

In addition, Ali Carter leads Jamie Jones 5-3, while Neil Robertson is beating Ronnie O’Sullivan by the same score.
