Sligo Rovers 4-0 FK Banga (4-0 on aggregate)
Derry City 5-0 Aberystwyth Town (9-0 on aggregate)
SLIGO ROVERS AND Derry City both joined fellow SSE Airtricity League Premier Division side Dundalk in progressing to the second round of the Europa League qualifiers tonight.
Having drawn the first leg 0-0 in Lithuania, the Bit O’Red welcomed FK Banga to the Showgrounds. The game looked to be heading into the half-time break scoreless when Aaron Greene’s deflected shot fell at the feet of defender Alan Keane, who drove past Sarunas Jurevicius in the Banga goal.
The visitors went down to ten men on 68 minutes after Karolis Urbaitis picked up a second yellow card and Greene doubled Sligo’s advantage four minutes later before Danny North and David Cawley handed them a comfortable win.
Elsewhere, Derry City held a 4-0 advantage going into their second leg with Welsh side Aberystwyth Town but didn’t take their foot off the gas and Michael Duffy got the Candystripes off the mark on 11 minutes.
Midfielder Barry McNamee added a second three minutes later before an excellent second half hat-trick from Rory Patterson — whose third goal was a coolly-executed ‘Panenka’ penalty kick.
