Sligo beat Limerick by two points in Round 3A Qualifier

The Yeats County in a scrappy affair at Markievicz Park.

Sligo 0-12

Limerick 0-10

A CROWD OF just over 2,200 saw Sligo beat Limerick in Round 3A of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers this afternoon with substitute Stephen Coen having a massive impact in the latter stages.

In a cagey affair, the two sides saw their ‘keepers score 45s in the opening 15 minutes with Adrian Deavney and Keelan Cawley scoring from play to make it 0-2 apiece in the opening quarter of an hour.

The sides were still level at the break as two late Limerick scores left it at 0-6 apiece. Sligo should have been five or six points clear but they regrouped and attack the second 35 with vigour.

Adrian Marren slotted over a free to edge the hosts ahead before missing two more gilt-edged chances from the placed ball. Ian Ryan levelled matters again before Coen and Mark Brehony gave Sligo some breathing room.

Ger Collins knocked over a point with 10 minutes to play and Limerick should have had a goal in the closing stages but, as with far too many of their scoring efforts, the ball flew wide.
